Scholarship Details & Eligibility

Bill is a rider at heart and a community hero in every sense of the word. This scholarship carries his legacy forward.

The Bill Tillman Scholarship is a CyRoot community initiative established to support first responders, U.S. Air Force veterans and active duty service members, and their families in pursuing education. CyRoot committed the first $1,000 to fund two $500 scholarships. Community donations fund every scholarship that follows.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet all three of the following criteria:

  • Geographic: Las Vegas, NV metro (where Bill resides and serves) OR Buffalo, NY metro (where Bill served with Amherst Police Department)

  • Service Affiliation: Law enforcement officer (active/retired), firefighter (active/retired), EMT/Paramedic (active/retired), USAF active duty or veteran, spouse or child of any of these

  • Education Intent: College or university program, trade school or vocational training, professional certification, continuing education or workforce development

Award Usage: These funds are designed to support your professional growth. The award can be used for a variety of educational purposes, including but not limited to:

  • Professional certification exam vouchers (e.g., CompTIA, PMP, CISSP).

  • Essential technical equipment or hardware.

  • Study materials, textbooks, or online course tuition.

Important Dates & Process

  • Application Deadline: Applications are accepted until October 15.

  • Review Process: All submissions will be carefully reviewed by the CyRoot Academy Scholarship Committee. Please note that all committee decisions are final.

  • Notification: Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision via email within 30 days of the application closing date.

CyRoot Academy reserves the right to verify military/first responder affiliation and educational requirements prior to disbursing any funds. Awards are non-transferable, and selected recipients will be asked to provide a brief impact report sharing how the scholarship helped their career journey.
